From a childhood spent riding ranch horses in the surrounding hills of Idaho’s Clearwater River Valley to national recognition as a Western Art pastel artist, Barby Schacher creates deeply detailed Western scenes filled with authenticity and emotion.
Her work reflects not only her artistic talent but her lifelong connection to the land, ranchlife, animals, and stories of the West. With each piece, Barby captures the strength, grace, and soul of horses, cattle, and wildlife—inviting collectors to own a piece of the heritage she knows by heart.
Barby is a member of the CGA – Cowgirl Artists of America – Signature Member, WAOW – Women Artists of the West – Associate Member and the APA – American Plains Artists – Associate Member.

I fell in love with the reference photo for this pastel – for several reasons – the moment I saw it! I love the colors, the blurred background and, of course, one of my favorite subjects – wild horses. However, the kicker for me was their pose. To me, they just look like they’re huddled together telling some pretty “wild secrets”!
