Barby Schacher is a Western Fine Art Artist whose work is deeply rooted in the traditions of ranch life, horses, and the rugged spirit of the American West. Raised in a world where horseback riding, rodeos, and cattle drives shaped her experiences, Barby channels these influences into her original pastel paintings, creating detailed pastel paintings full of heart and authenticity that capture the heart of Western life.
Her art begins with a love for fine detail and texture, using pastel pencils to build rich layers of color that bring her subjects to life — from the soft fur of a calf to the rugged folds of worn denim. Each stroke is applied intentionally, starting most pieces with the eyes, where the soul of the subject shines through. Her original pastel paintings tell the timeless stories of everyday ranch life, celebrating both its beauty and grit.
Barby’s work has earned recognition in prestigious Western art competitions, including multiple awards at the Western Art Rodeo Association (WARA), where she was honored with Best of Show and named the 2019 WARA World Champion in Dry Medium. In 2021, her pastel painting Just Exhausted received the Art of the West 2021 Award at the Women Artists of the West 51st National Exhibition at The Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas. These accolades reflect her commitment to preserving Western heritage through art, as well as her attention to detail, authenticity, and storytelling.
As a Signature Member of Cowgirl Artists of America (CGA) and a member of Women Artists of the West (WAOW), Barby is part of a community that supports and uplifts women in the Western art world.
